The BPL equipment is MainNet and is deployed in a very small pilot. The players are the City of Burnet and Broadband Horizons.

 

The HF radio is a Yeasu FT100D and the antenna is a Yaesu ATAS100. This is a large file. Please be patient.  Burnet BPL Video

As far as we could tell there were only 2 devices attached to the power lines with the ISP connection at the Momentum office just a few feet away. I listened with my Yaesu VX-5 handheld and stock antenna. The interference is clear.

 

The location of this very small pilot is at 1010 Main St. on a pole just outside the Momentum office and just down the street towards the BP gas station.

NEWS FLASH:

 

IDACOMM will be installing a test BPL transmitter for Centerpoint Energy in the 4500 block of Richmond Ave., according to the latatude and longitude on the experimental license. The equipment is from Mitsibushi and is not yet FCC type accepted - but type acceptance is expected soon.

 

The license shows that it is an experimental license and we do feel that any interference should be reported to the FCC.

 

So, if anyone is hearing any BPL interference at the 4500 block of Richmond Ave., please DO report it to the FCC and also let us know how bad the interference is (was).

The American Statesman recently published an article BPL. The article was written by Kirk Ladendorf, Thursday, November 25, 2004, titled “BURNET High-speed Internet through your electric plug?”
