If a premier league club, or any other, goes into liquidation what happens? A friend was explaining that if this happens, then every team who has beaten them gets the points taken away, is this true? and is there more to it than that. Also, if the club leaves, then there will be one less in the league, so will one less club go down, or another extra one go up, or neither? Because it will influence all of the other leagues. i know what happens if a club goes into administration, but what about liquidation?
The FA acts like the team didn’t compete in any matches and the Premier League season only had 19 teams to begin with. All points and goals scored would be removed from other teams statistics, benefitting those clubs who lost to Pompey.
It’s for that reason i feel that the FA will allow Pompey to continue up until the end of the season, and then have them wrapped up.
Football clubs are mostly all PLC’s now, so just like a company, it ceases trading indefinitely. Their fans could possibly set up a continuation, but it would be completely seperate from the original Portsmouth FC, including previous acheivements i.e. trophies, league titles etc.
The results would still be on record for every season prior, but the continuing club would have no right to claim those acheivements as their own.
In other words the club ceases to exist.
It would mean only 2 go down from the premier league (18th and 19th) but 4 go up. So third place in the championship would, for one season only be automatic promotion and the play-offs would be for the teams finishing 4th 5th, 6th and 7th.
The other leagues would remain the same.

I’ve heard that of my brother also, But my mate doesnt seem to believe me that this will happen. I’ve looked everywhere and i cant find the rules stating this if a club goes into liquidation. Could you possibly tell me where you got your answer from? Or send me a link to the rules & regulations on clubs being put into liquidation. Thanks
