It is the biggest "world sport", but just never took to the sports fans in the U.S., probably due to lack of knowledge of the sport. On top of that, it is hard to get into a sport with such little scoring and action. It's too "one dimensional" too a lot of people. To just kick the ball back and forth over a field that is much too big.

Becouse of ignorance still to many hillbillies and rednecks that cant think outsidethe box.! here in the states people prefer GOLF becouse its easy for fat and whimpy losers and prefer a spelling bee on ESPN which hold a bunch of kids from pakistan speaking better english than people from our own country!.and also becouse the U.S. is full of obesity and lazyness. They cant take watching people who are running for 90 minutes playing a game with lots of class.And thats not just me talking thats the whole world sport.And trust me we the people from the U.S need more football(soccer). than soccer needing the U.S.

It is still a very young league and it is going to take a generation or two before it even competes with the other prime time sports in the USA. The sport is growing in the states and with the great exposure of coverage from other foreign leagues, its only a matter of time before people will give the sport a chance.
Once you establish people to follow the sport, it will entice them to support the MLS and push on. Remember a sport in any country is part of that country’s culture….it takes time to change that.

Why? The problem is that it isn't underrated! The support is SOMETIMES big, but usually it isn't too big. MLS attracts as much as 16,770 people in average in comparison to Premier league (35,991 people in average) and Bundesliga (37,644 people in average), and even SPL has similar amount of average attendance figure with MLS (while Scotland's population is tiny compared to USA). Also, NFL attracts 67,738 people every match on average.

It is only a matter of time until this great sport is accepted. I do not think that it will be as popular as the NFL, MLB, or NBA within the next 15-20 years, but one day it will. I once saw a stat like 2 years ago on either ESPN or HBO Sports and it was that there are more kids playing soccer (football, whatever you want to call it) in America than there is in the rest of the world combined. So if that stat hold true, it is only a matter of time that this country enjoys this amazing sport.

The MLS is still a very poor quality league. I have been watching the Chicago games out of curiosity (vis-a-vis Cuahtemoc Blanco) but the tecnical, tactical quality is abysmal... Blanco is the only guy on the Chicago team that can actually control the ball.

Soccer is boring for people who don't understand the rules to watch. I am one of these people, I can't stand to watch it but it is because I don't understand it. I hated watching golf untill I learned how to play it.
