Sri Lankan’s Cricket Club, Hong Kong | First Victory !!!

Sunday March 01, 2009
Today at Mission Road ground Sri Lankans Cricket Club registered their first ever win in Sunday league against Vagabonds Cricket Club.
Vagabonds captain Sher Lama won the toss and decided to bat first on a day with wet ground and drizzling weather, ball get wet and ground field was heavy. Tauseef Bukhari and Royce McDonald opened the bowling for Sri Lankans Club. Royce took the first wicket in his first over while Tauseef was swinging the ball ‘using his experience’ even the ball was wet and heavy. Tauseef was swinging the ball a mile and quickly added two wickets 2 x bowled! One LBW and we saw the key hitters of the previous week out very cheaply, 4 for 52 and in trouble.
One in swinging delivery by Tauseef sent Jamshed Khan back to pavilion when he went for a forward defensive stroke and completely missed it, clean bowled!!! Huge celebrations and next man has to face Tauseef with a bit under pressure. Tariq did not want to miss out and bowled superbly getting a skied catch. The captain juggled but held the catch. Tariq continued his good run with the ball and got two more quick wickets, LBW and Bowled. Chandrin entered the fray after an average game the week before and dominated with 2-12 of 6 overs. Great effort. Bobby 0-41 off 10 including 3 maidens a highlight also. Tauseef a fine 3-43 off 10, Royce tight 1-15 off 4 all contributed.
SLCC batting started well with Chandrin looking in fine form. Simon was cracking the ball in the tunnel to backward point for a couple of 4s, things looked good. Chandrin fell to a skied catch for 14, Ateeq out for 7. SLCC in trouble. Vicky entered and played some wonderful shots. Simon bizarrely run out for 20 trying for an easy second but not grounding his bat!
After Lunch Sri Lankans Cricket club started with Simon Baker and Chandrin Dissanayake. Founder of Sri Lanka Club Chandrin played few classic shots and set up the tone with Simon Baker. After Chandrin new batsman Ateeq chipped in with few superb boundaries to Jamshed Khan but couldnt stay longer at the crease. Which caused Vicky Niaz to put his head together with Simon Baker and they continued their journey towards this historic win. Vagabonds fielders were really sharp in the field and one direct throw on non-striker end sent Simon back who was looking confident and solid in the middle.
Tauseef came in and hit a classic four in the covers, but couldnt stay longer, Sher lama done the trick, Brenton and Bobby all out cheaply saw SLCC slump to 7-88. Enter Royce with Vicky. 78 runs later and SLCC in with a chance. 8-166 and still 37 for victory.
Skipper Royce McDonald leading from the front shown superb commitments and on the other end Vicky kept stealing the runs and both of them really set up an example. They really never ever give up!!!
Pathan batted well and partnered 21 runs partnership with Vicky before running himself out within sight of victory! Qaushid said don’t worry I will get the runs. He did and SLCC had its first victory!
Vicky Niaz was unbeaten at 97, when Qaushid helped him at last wicket partnership to get the1 wicket victory in 45th over.
Vicky Niaz played an out standing knock that will be remembered in Sri Lankans Cricket Club’s history. Well Done Vicky Niaz!!!
“Real Team Work” brought the victory. Sri Lankans Cricket Club won their first game ever in Sunday league in their third season. It will be remembered as Founder of Sri Lankans Cricket Club Chandrin Dissanayake expressed his extreme joy and congratulated all the team players and Captain Royce McDonald for their unforgettable efforts!!!

Oh the pain of it, Simon, your father’s heart is broken. Son, why didn’t you ground your bat. All your family back here in Australia have moved to The Western Australia Kimberley Region to get away from the angrey crowds out the front of their homes. Son, you have allot to do to resurect the family name of BAKER but I faith in you – I think.
    Your Father.
